Behind the Scenes: Filming ‘The Fixers’ in Marikina with Smile Train

At Exposure.ph, we’ve been lucky to work on a wide variety of productions, but some projects leave a lasting impact long after the cameras stop rolling. We recently had the privilege of serving as the local production partners for an incredibly special episode of Daytime Emmy nominated TV show, The Fixers filmed at St. Vincent General Hospital in Marikina.

Filmed right here in Marikina, this episode (Season 5, Episode 3) was more than just a renovation show—it was a mission to change lives.

The Mission: A Hospital Makeover

For those new to the show, The Fixers travel the world working with local communities to complete high-stakes building projects that make a difference. For their stop in the Philippines, they partnered with Smile Train, the world’s largest cleft-focused organization.

The goal? To remodel facilities at the St. Vincent General Hospital in Marikina, a vital hub where children and young adults with cleft lips and palates receive life-changing surgeries and care.

Our Role on Set

As the local production arm, the Exposure.ph team was on the ground ensuring the international crew had everything they needed to capture this heartwarming story. We provided:

  • Sound Recording: Capturing every hammer swing and emotional interview.
  • Camera Operation: assisting the DP to get the right shots.
  • Production Assistance: Navigating the logistics of a fast-paced reality TV shoot in the metro, including catering, transport, visa assistance and more!

It wasn’t without its challenges! As viewers will see in the episode, the team faced a tighter deadline than usual—with one less day to build—and even had to power through with a team member falling ill. But being part of the “fix” and seeing the resilience of the crew and the local community was inspiring.

Partners in Doing Good

We have to give a huge shout-out to the people we worked alongside. Smile Train is a truly fantastic organization, and seeing their impact firsthand was a highlight for our team. Likewise, the management at St. Vincent General Hospital were incredibly accommodating and easy to work with, making the logistics of filming in a working hospital much smoother.

It is always rewarding to help produce a TV show that actually makes a difference. Seeing the smiles on the faces of the children and their families reminded us why we love what we do.
